Musei Civici di Pavia, Gabinetto dei Disegni e delle Stampe
Pavia
The Gabinetto dei disegni e delle stampe is mostly due to the munificence of the Marquis Luigi Malaspina di Sannazzaro, who donated to the museums the collection that he formed during the first thirty years of the nineteenth century. Today it counts more than 16,000 works. A peculiar feature of this collection is the encyclopedic intent with which it was created, to illustrate the birth and development of European engraving from its origins to the eighteenth century. The collection is important not only for the quality and rarity of the works there preserved (Albrecht Dürer, Rembrandt, Andrea Mantegna, Antonio del Pollaiolo, Giambattista Tiepolo), but also for the attestation of a specific collection project.
